The last week

The last week has been somewhat of a challenge, but we had a great Halloween anyway.

Lola had been complaining that her right ear had been bothering her for a few days. I was hoping it would go away on its own so I had been monitoring it with the otoscope and been giving her ibproufen and homeopathic drops to help with the pain. Over the weekend, I decided we both had had enough. Her attitude and her drama level were truly Halloween horrifying. Monday morning we loaded up and headed to the doctor. I tried to explain to Lola that our regular doctor was full and that we would be seeing his wife today. Lola's response? " ohhhh! So......she's......a girl?" Sigh. I guess it didn't really matter anyway. So the doctor confirmed a raging ear infection. Antibiotics were prescribed and then it was my turn.

The nasty cold we had gotten had seemed to settle in my sinuses and was not moving. Sinus pressure like you would not believe... when i bent over I thought my face was going to explode. First they took my blood pressure and the second they started pumping up the cuff, Greta's face crumpled up and she started bawling. Poor thing is very empathetic. End result was more antibiotics for me as well.

Luckily the day was not ruined. We made several trips for trick or treating and Lola was a peach. She was so excited and yet cooperative. She ate a good supper and even took her medicine without complaint! Successful Halloween for sure.

Getting her to take her medicine has been such a breeze compared to when she was littler. We used to have to pin her down and slowly deposit the medicine in her cheek, then blow in her face to get her to swallow. This time all we need to do is say "time for medicine...take it like a big girl and you can have some milk!" (Isn't it great we can bribe with milk rather than sweets! :)

Unfortunately Wednesday night and Thursday she began to complain that her ear hurt worse. A quick check in her ear confirmed it was still very infected. She was put on a stronger antibiotic that night. This whole thing brought me back to when she was little and had many ear infections.... the lesser antibiotics never worked then either. Her ear infections must be pretty nasty ones. Makes me think she is such a trooper. Here is hoping it improves soon

Greta is doing really well. Got over the cold we had quickly and is healthy ( knock on wood) She is learning lots of new words and talking lots. Some of her new words include apple, cracker and sucker ( see a pattern here?) She is totally enamored with her sister and I hope they are well on their way to being best friends ;)
